Players develop by practicing, playing and watching. This final component, of watching high level soccer, is what many american players lack in their developmental routines. Serious soccer players should watch at least one game a week. Watching games not only reinforces technical skills and tactical concepts but also serves to inspire players as they witness the artistic possibilities that exist within the "beautiful game" of soccer.
I urge coaches and parents to help their players find televised games to watch. Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN have games each weekend.
Here is a great website for listings: http://www.livesoccertv.com/
I realize that some players don't have the time or patience to watch a full game. For these players I'm going to offer a weekly link to a soccer highlight video on youtube. Hopefully these short videos will inspire our players to begin watching more soccer games on TV.
Here is a highlight video of one of the world's all time best players, Zinedine Zidane.
