Great ideas. One point I would add is that guided discovery is the only way to teach truly creative play. Ask good questions and sometimes you'll get answers you don't expect. I can't imagine how didactic teaching would ever accomplish this goal. I also wonder if it is the key to promote strong finishing, where creative play is often so vital.
